11:00- 12:00 Zoom Check-In (Please see schedule posted below if this applies to you. You will be expected to do this twice each week, once with Mrs. Hulst and once with Mrs. deJonge . It should take about 10 minutes of your time. Please log in between those times, after your work has been submitted for that day, if possible) Anyone may log in if you need help with something during this time.

ZOOM Math Help: 9:30 am - 10:15 am for any questions you may have. (not mandatory) You can join and leave the meeting as often as needed. If you have math questions before or after this time feel free to email!

PICTURE Reminder: Check all your pictures before hitting submit!

Are they;

-the right side up?

-can you take a scan instead of a picture? (If so, one scan per page works fine as we can easily zoom in on scans for marking/checking)

-have they been uploaded in the correct order or have you renamed them to show the proper order?

Correct your work from 5.3. I have indicated which questions you need to rethink in a comment on yesterdays assignment. Find this comment back in your email or in yesterdays assignment. You can use this 5.3 Answer Key. to help.

Comparing and Ordering Fractions

2. Copy the board note for 5.4 into your Notebook

3. Look over page 172 in your textbook and watch the video below (video not mandatory)

4. DO pg. 173 # 1 - 51 (ODD only)

Show how you have changed to a common denominator but write the final answer with the original fractions, when appropriate!
Please work across your page, instead of down or in 2 columns

5. Upload pictures of your work to the assignment in Google Classroom

2. Gr. 8 Math (~ 1 hr)

5.3 & 5.4 Adding and Subtracting Fractions

1.) Find your quiz from yesterday and the Board note for 5.3 & 5.4 (This board note was handed out in class last week Tuesday.. but if you lost it here is a printable version.) Glue your board note on the top of a new page.

2.) Watch the video below to correct your quiz. Continue watching to fill in the board note. (Think...don't just copy!)

3. Do: 185 # 3-33 (THIRDS) and 187 # 3 -30 (THIRDS)

include a title for each page
express all answers in lowest terms!
estimating can simply be done in your head to check to see if your answer is reasonable!
word problems need sentences.

4. Upload pictures of your 5.3 and 5.4 work to the assignment in google classroom.

Writing (~ 1/2 hr)

If you were absent Monday, January 3 and did not hand in your speech topic, please email your topic choice first.
Watch both videos by Leanne. This teacher gives a fairly simple explanation to writing the 5-paragraph essay, and seeing as a speech is very similar to an essay, this should help you considerably.
1. Seeing as this may be something that you will refer to as you are writing your speech. Remember where to find it :).

The Hobbit ( ~1 hr)

Read the introduction to The Hobbit found on the first two pages of the novel.
Turn to the first handout in your Literature Worksheets (yellow divider) section "Setting of the Hobbit"
1. Read through the top part of the worksheet.
  1. Don't forget to follow the instruction to Study the maps (There are two of them.) on pages following.
2. Begin to read (you may listen to the recorded reading) The Hobbit.
  1. Fill out the worksheet after you have finished reading the first section (to the middle of page 20). Use the novel and be as detailed as you can be.
3. You will only read to the middle of p. 20 today. The rest of the chapter will be read tomorrow.
4. Upload a picture of the 'Setting of The Hobbit' handout to the assignment in google classroom.

History (~1/2 hr)

Work through the PowerPoint "The Siege of Quebec" and click to go to the next slide while listening to the audio lesson.
1. Complete the handout (by the same title) that you have in your binder as you go through the PowerPoint.
Make sure that you click start slideshow and the audio should start automatically. You will have to click to proceed to the next slide as directed by me in the audio file. If the audio does not begin turn it on by clicking the audio icon on the first slide.
Upload a picture of the completed handout and turn in to the assignment "Chapter 5, Lesson 5, The Siege of Quebec" in Google Classroom.

This will be mandatory for you twice a week, otherwise it is optional. It should only take about 10 - 15 minutes of your time, and should be done after you have completed most of your work for the day, if possible. (You may need to wait patiently in the waiting room before we will let you in.)
